Meet the Leeds 0 to 19 team
Our 0 to 19 service is made up of a range of health professionals who support babies, children, young people and families across Leeds. The team includes:
- Specialist public health nurse
s: Health visitors and school nurses - Staff nurses
- Family health workers
- Healthcare support workers
Depending on your child’s age and the support you need, you may see any member of the team. We work closely together, so everyone involved in your care has access to the same information and can offer safe, consistent advice.
When you will see us
We will contact you when your appointment is due, so you don’t need to do anything right now.

If you cannot attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. This helps us rearrange your appointment and offer the time to another family.
A 0 to 19 specialist public health nurse (health visitor) will receive information about your pregnancy from your midwife.
Expecting parents will receive a Personal Child Health Record (PCHR) also known as the Red Book.
Your Red Book includes:
- information about the support we can offer
- advice before your baby is born
- ways to contact us
- space to record your baby’s weight, height, vaccinations and other milestones

Pregnancy and your new babyWe will visit you at home to:
- talk about feeding, safe sleeping, and your relationship with your baby
- check your baby’s early development
- see how you are feeling
- discuss any extra support you may need
We will visit you at home when your baby is between 6 to 12 weeks old.
We will:
- review your baby’s health and development
- talk about feeding, immunisations and sleep
- listen to how you are feeling physically and emotionally
- talk about your bond and relationship with your baby
We will send you appointment details inviting you to your child’s first development review when they are between 9 to 12 months old.
We will talk about:
- behaviour, growth, sleep, and eating habits
- potty training, dental health, immunisations, and safety
- your wellbeing as a parent and answer any questions you may have
We will send you appointment details inviting you to your child’s development review when they are between 2 to 2.5 years old.
We will talk about:
- behaviour, growth, sleep, and eating habits
- dental health, immunisations and safety
- screen time, keeping active, and school readiness
- your wellbeing as a parent and answer any questions you may have
Our 0 to 19 practitioners see all children in school to offer important health checks and support.
Before your child starts school (Read about Starting reception), you will:
- receive a short questionnaire about your child’s health and development. This helps us understand if your child or family needs any extra support.
We will then see your child in school when they are:
- aged 4 to 5 years (reception year)

- aged 10 to 11 years (Year 6)
Our 0 to 19 public health nursing service may be asked by another service or professional to complete a health assessment for your child if there are additional needs or concerns. This will only be done with your consent and, where appropriate, your child’s consent.
If you have any worries about your child’s health or wellbeing, you can speak to your GP, your child’s school, or education staff. We work closely with schools and can offer guidance, advice and support when needed.
