Care of Next Infant (CONI)

If you have sadly lost a baby from sudden Infant death syndrome (SIDS), there is support available for you and your family.

0 to 19 PHINS can offer  you a special programme called Care of next infant (CONI) to help support you through a future pregnancy and after your new baby is born.

What the CONI Programme offers

If you choose to take part in the CONI programme, you will receive:

• regular contact with your health visitor
• loan of movement monitors
• training in basic life support
• monitoring your baby’s growth and health

The aim of CONI is to support you emotionally and practically at a time when caring for a new baby may feel especially difficult.

Bereavement support

If you have experienced the sudden or unexpected death of a baby or young child, you can also get help from The Lullaby Trust.

They offer:

• a dedicated bereavement support helpline
• one-to-one support from trained befrienders
• information for families after a loss
• resources for parents, siblings and extended family

They will talk through the support available and help you decide what feels right for you.
