The manager must complete the Identification of Intervention and parental consent form with the child’s parents or person with parental responsibility. This is a separate form.
It includes obtaining the parents signature, giving permission for the nominated person(s) to carry out the procedure.
When giving consent, parents must be are aware that they are allowing the service to deliver whatever level of training is required. To ensure the staff member caring for their child has reached the required level of competence this may require more than one training session with their child. Most training is carried out with the child being present. Training cannot commence until consent is received.
The service will acknowledge by sending the terms and conditions and a letter confirming acceptance of the training request to the referrer. The member of staff to be trained will contact the service to arrange training. A log will be made of the request by the CCNS Administration team. We aim to start to deliver training within a maximum of 6 weeks of receiving the request. Training programmes length will be determined on an individual basis, with some staff requiring more support until they are deemed competent. Training requests made with less than 6 weeks’ notice will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
Training will be delivered during the service’s core daytime working hours, Monday to Friday. Where possible the service will try and fulfil requests for training outside of these times, but this cannot be guaranteed.
On completion of training the final page of the Identification of Intervention and parental consent form will be completed by the trainer and member of staff undertaking the training. A copy will be retained by the trainer for the electronic patient record and copies will be sent to the parent and requester. Staff members will sign 2 competency certificates. A copy is retained for the electronic patient record and the other is given to the staff member. Staff are deemed competent on the day they are signed off by the trainer, and are responsible to request any further training required, for example, if there is a change in care or if they have not performed the care for a period and do not feel confident.
The staff member will receive an evaluation form.
Participants manager to ensure that all persons being trained have completed CPR and M&H training plus have DBS check in place.
