We provide care services and universal health screenings to residents at HM Wetherby Young Offenders Institute.
What we offer
We deliver primary care services at HM Wetherby Young Offenders Institute (HMYOI) providing custodial places for boys aged 15 to 17 (up until their 18th birthday).
We assess all young people using a universal health screening tool to make sure that all health needs are identified and met while they are in custody.
We have a mixed team of nurses (including paediatric, mental health and learning disability and adult nurses) healthcare assistants and pharmacy technicians who work to provide healthcare 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Our primary healthcare service aims to be equivalent to that provided in the community and includes GP, dental and optician services. We also strive to make sure young people’s health care needs are met and continue to be met when the young people return to a community setting or transfer to another secure environment.
Examples of the care we provide includes:
Full physical health assessment
Immunisation and vaccinations
Sexual health screening
GP, dentist, optician and podiatry access.
Assessment post incident
Head injury observation
Triage care
