Faltering weight or growth can occur when a child is struggling to eat or drink, this can happen for many reasons. It is important that children receive good amounts of nutrition to help them gain weight and grow well. Nourishing drink recipes of 300 to 400kcal:
- Milkshake: 200ml (1 glass) full fat milk plus 2 tbsp dried milk powder plus 2 heaped dessert spoons of milkshake powder
- Chocolate smoothie: 200ml (1 glass) full fat milk plus 1 tbsp dried milk powder plus 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream
- Fruit smoothie (2 servings): Handful of strawberries plus 1 banana plus 125g pot of full fat yoghurt plus 200ml (1 glass) full fat milk plus 1 tbsp dried milk powder
- Another tip to add some different flavours, consider adding a tablespoon of peanut butter or chocolate spread to the milkshakes. Can also use different flavours of ice cream.
