/Our services (A to Z)/Musculoskeletal (MSK)/Back assessment and education day

Back assessment and education day

Thank you for your patience whilst waiting for an appointment with our musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy service.

Due to high demand, there is currently an estimated waiting time of approximately 20 weeks for a routine physiotherapy appointment for back pain.

To help you access advice and assessment sooner, we are offering a back assessment and education day on Tuesday 3rd November at Carnegie School of Sport Building, Headingley, LS6 3FH. There will be four separate sessions throughout the day, and you only need to attend one session, which will last approximately 2 hours.

The session will include:

Individual assessment

You will have an individual assessment with a specialist physiotherapist from our spinal treatment service, who will discuss your symptoms and provide personalised advice.

Group education session

This session will provide an overview of managing back and leg pain and explain some common clinical symptoms. You will receive information to help you understand and manage your pain, as well as guidance on where to find further advice and resources to support self-management of your back pain.

Exercise Programme (if appropriate)

If appropriate, you will be provided with an exercise pack and shown how to perform the exercises safely. The programme includes a range of exercises that can be adapted to suit different abilities and may help improve your back pain while giving you the confidence to continue exercising independently at home.

Following the session, it is hoped that you will feel better equipped to self-manage your symptoms. However, if your assessment identifies that further physiotherapy treatment or intervention is required, this will be arranged for you.

We hope you will be able to attend, as this will allow you to be assessed much sooner than waiting for a routine appointment and will provide you with expert advice and guidance on managing your back pain at an earlier stage.

Available sessions: Tuesday, 3 November 2026
Please select one of the following sessions:

  • Session 1: 8:30am to 10:30am
  • Session 2: 10:30am to 12:30pm
  • Session 3: 1pm to 3pm
  • Session 4: 3pm to 5pm

If you would like to attend, please use the link in the SMS you received.

Or contact us on 0113 843 1909 by 30th October, stating your preferred session.

If we do not hear from you, you will remain on the waiting list for a routine physiotherapy appointment, where the current waiting time is approximately 20 weeks.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Note: Please wear appropriate loose clothing to the session. This session will be delivered in English. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate any extra people within this session, this includes children so please attend alone.
