Work in speech and language therapy (SLT)
Come along to our interactive SLT Taster Workshop!
Whether you’re curious about becoming a speech and language therapist or ready to take the next step, our half-day, online workshop is the perfect way to dive in. Held twice a year, in spring and autumn, this session is packed with insider info, career inspiration, and practical advice to help you decide if speech and language therapy is the path for you.
What’s in store?
- Explore the world of adult and paediatric SLT.
- Share top tips for gaining relevant experience before you apply to university.
- Gain insight into training, applying for a job and what being an SLT really involves.
- Ask us anything, get your questions answered by two practising SLTs in a relaxed Q&A.
You’ll leave with a clearer picture of the SLT profession and ideas for getting hands-on experience.
Learning outcomes: By the end of the workshop you will be able to:
- discover several skills required for communication
- recognise difficulties that children and adults can have with communication
- recognise difficulties that people can experience with swallowing
- describe some of the many roles of a speech and language therapist.
Unfortunately we are unable to offer observational visits to a clinic or therapy department as our teaching time is committed to supporting students who are already training to become a speech and language therapist. Course admissions tutors will look at your understanding of the profession and the needs of people with communications disorders, and also your ability to communicate with them, rather than whether you have observed therapists at work.
