Apprenticeships

Put simply, apprenticeships are a development programme which allow you to learn while you earn. They’re a fantastic way to support your future.

Learn while you earn

Whether you’re getting started on the career ladder, you’re looking for the next step, or making a move to a completely new career, an apprenticeship with Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust could be the opportunity for you. You can work towards gaining a nationally recognised qualification with both on and off the job training, at a pace that suits you. We’ll make sure you’re supported at every step of the way by a trainer assessor or line manager.

As well as gaining your qualification, you’ll be earning whilst you study, making your career development far more affordable. Your salary will depend upon the apprenticeship but as Living Wage Employer we’ll ensure it’s fair pay. Plus you’ll benefit from our  other rewards, and as a student, you’ll be eligible for an NUS card, which gives you access to a range of additional benefits and discounts.

Despite the common misconception, there’s no age limit to apprentices. Anyone over the age of 16 can be an apprentice and this can include qualifications up to degree, master’s or even doctorate level.

“It’s been amazing all the way through; I’ve had so much support. Even now that I am a permanent member of staff, I’m still receiving the support I did as an Apprentice.”

FAQs

Who can apply?

Apprenticeships are for both new and existing members of staff who are aged 16 or over (there is no maximum age) and:

  • the apprenticeship must be above the level of your highest current qualification in the same subject area
  • you must not be enrolled on another apprenticeship or DfE funded course at the start of your apprenticeship
  • you must have the right to work in the UK

For existing members of staff, apprenticeships offer the perfect chance to develop your skills and progress your career. You’ll maintain your job at the end of your contract, and we’ll continue to support you to progress to the next level.

What qualification will I earn?

The equivalent education levels are as follows:

  • Level 2 (intermediate): 5 GCSE passes, grades A* to C
  • Level 3 (advanced): 2 A-level passes
  • Level 4, 5, 6, 7 (higher): Foundation Degree and above

How long will my apprenticeships last?

Most apprenticeships last 12 to 24 months, although others can last as long as four years. It completely depends on the apprenticeship chosen. You will ideally be working a minimum of 30 hours per week, with a minimum contract length of 12 months.

How will I be assessed?

Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will be visited in the workplace by your trainer assessor and will be observed carrying out day-to-day activities and asked further questions to explore and assess your knowledge. Evidence of your competency will be collected by you and your trainer assessor throughout your apprenticeship, and at the end of each module there will be a milestone review. Most apprenticeships require an assessment at the end of the programme.
