Adoption and fostering (ICAN)
Adoption and fostering service for Leeds are run with Leeds City Council with Leeds Community Healthcare involvement.
Who we are
We work across all areas to support children in care through the fostering and adoption process.
Fostering
Many children who enter the care system have had their health, educational and social needs neglected and there are many health inequalities. A doctor will see all children who come into care for their initial health needs assessment (HNA). This is a statutory assessment that looks at all needs of the child as soon as they come into care. This is a holistic assessment that will include examination and investigations if necessary. This assessment should be available for the child’s first care review with the Local Authority.
Each child has a review HNA that is done by a specialist nurse.
If the plan for the child is adoption then we remain involved.
The team also complete adult medicals for foster carers, special guardians and kinship carers.
