Statement from the Trust Board on the Bribery Act 2010 and Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA)

The Trust Board is dedicated to upholding the principles outlined in the Bribery Act 2010 and the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA), which took effect on 1 July 2011 and 1 September 2025, respectively. These acts aim to combat fraud, bribery, and corruption in both the private and public sectors.

At the trust, we have established strict controls to prevent unethical practices. However, it is essential that we remain vigilant and ensure that all our employees, vendors, locums, contractors, and any other business partners strictly follow our policies and procedures, especially regarding procurement and sponsorship.

We expect everyone associated with the trust to understand and follow the standards of behaviour we uphold. These standards, outlined in our policy, describe the ethics, professional conduct, and honesty we demand in business conduct.

If any instances of fraud or bribery are suspected, we would encourage you to report this to the Trust’s Counter Fraud team by emailing yhs-tr.counterfraudyork@nhs.net or reports can be made anonymously to the NHS Counter Fraud Authority. Further details can be found on the NHS Counter Fraud Authority website.

A key part of the Bribery Act and the ECCTA is the commitment from the top level of the organisation to prevent fraud, bribery, and corruption. The Trust Board is fully committed to this and will regularly discuss these issues in board meetings to ensure the importance of transparency and openness is consistently communicated. A board member has been appointed to lead our efforts in this area.

On behalf of the trust, I want to reaffirm our commitment to making sure all staff understand their responsibilities in preventing fraud, bribery, and corruption.

Dr Sara Munro
Interim Chief Executive
