October 1, 2025
On Thursday 25 September, we were delighted to welcome Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care, to Leeds to present a very special award.
Liz Grogan, Head of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), was honoured with the Silver Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Award for her outstanding contribution to social care. This prestigious recognition celebrates individuals who go above and beyond in their work, making a lasting impact on the lives of those they support.
Liz has long been a respected leader in IPC across the city, but this award marks a national acknowledgement of her dedication and influence. During her recent fellowship with NHS England, Liz led on a number of key initiatives to improve IPC practice across health and social care. These included establishing an IPC Champions network, supporting the development of a Care Home network, promoting the use of ‘i-spy’ resources, and helping to develop a new IPC e-learning module now available to all colleagues across health and social care.
This work has already contributed to reducing healthcare-associated infections and improving patient outcomes – a lasting legacy of Liz’s commitment to excellence.
Sheila Sorby, Deputy Director of Nursing & Quality and Director of Infection Prevention & Control said "Liz is well recognised for her contribution to IPC leadership in Leeds so this Silver CNO Award is a fitting tribute to her passion, hard work, and continued dedication to improving care. I am incredibly proud of her. Well done Liz."
