Accessibility statement

Here you will find our accessibility statement for the Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust and Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service websites.

This accessibility statement applies to the following websites:

  • Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust
  • Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service (opens in new tab)

These websites are run by Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust (LCHT). We want as many people as possible to be able to use these websites and have designed and developed websites that offer good accessibility. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change contrast levels
  • modify the font, colours, line height or spacing of text
  • zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen
  • The text will reflow in a single column when you change the size of your browser window
  • navigate the website using just a keyboard
  • translate the website into a different language
  • listen to the website content using a screen reader
  • We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

We provide assistive technology, enabling all website visitors to customise their experience through a range of options to suit their online accessibility and language needs.

The Recite Me toolbar provides text-to-speech functionality, fully customisable styling features, reading aids and a translation tool with over 100 languages, including 65 text-to-speech voices and many other features.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • Some documents available on the website are not accessible.
  • Some form features on the website are not accessible.
  • A small number of images on the website do not have a text alternative.
  • Some of the website links do not have a clear explanation or state they open in a new tab.
  • Some pages and document attachments are not clearly written.
  • Some tables do not have row headers.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) (opens in a new tab).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Leeds Community Healthcare Trust is committed to making the trust’s websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version (WCAG) 2.2 (opens in a new tab) AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

  • Some of the images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A). We are working to correct this.
  • The text within the documents can’t be resized when viewed in the browser or in PDF format. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.4 Resize Text (Level AA). We are currently working with services to convert the majority of these documents to accessible formats such as HTML pages or accessible documents.
  • Some tables do not have row headers. We are working to correct this. This fails WCAG 2.2: success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A)
  • Some pages and document attachments are not clearly written. We are working to correct this.
  • The presentation of the submit (and next page) buttons on the patient referral and triage forms is controlled by conditional logic. This can be confusing for screen readers as the content is still visible when using a screen reader. This fails WCAG 2.2: 3.2.2 On Input (Level A), 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (Level A) and 2.4.3 Focus Order (Level A).
  • Google Translate: This fails WCAG 2.0: 1.3.1  Field labels (Level A) and WCAG 2.1: 1.3.5 Programmatic field purpose (Level AA). This solution has been included to provide a quick and easy way for users to translate content to their required language, across the Leeds Community Healthcare website. The section that currently fails accessibility requirements, is an invisible form for users to provide feedback directly to Google about their translation tool, and is not controlled within the website codebase.
  • Complianz Cookie plugin: This fails WCAG 2.0: 1.3.1 Semantic links (Level A) relating to the text links in the cookies popup, not using a HTML ‘<ul>’ list tag to be displayed. The Complianz Cookie plugin has been included to provide a robust cookie management tool for website users and administrators alike, despite the current accessibility warning. The affected links list within the popup is controlled by the plugin, and an issue has been raised with the plugin provider to resolve this issue.
  • Google ReCAPTCHA v3: This fails WCAG 2.0: 1.3.1 Field labels (Level A), relating to the invisible Google ReCAPTCHA input that is in place to prevent unauthentic form submissions and spam across all forms found on the website, that may be submitted by bots and not genuine website users. The input HTML included by the Gravity Forms plugin Add-on for Google ReCAPTCHA v3, does not have an associated label for the HTML input tag, which is causing this to fail, although this is an invisible field that works in the background, and does not require user interaction.
  • On the homepage of the Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust website, the keyboard is not visible when tabbing between ‘contact us’ links and ‘information hub’ links. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible. We are working to correct this.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared in May 2025.

This website was last tested during March 2025 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard by our web developers 6B Digital. The test was carried out using automated testing processes.

From the results we made an action plan including practical solutions to make this website easier for everyone to use. We have started work to significantly improve the accessibility of this website; some changes can be made more quickly than others. We will update this web page when changes have been made.

We are committed to making sure this website is compliant to WCAG 2.2 ‘AA’ standard.

Statement last reviewed and updated in May 2025.

Our accessibility compliance statement will be reviewed every six months. We have planned a full manual accessibility audit and plan to address areas of concern before the next review in November 2025.
