2025 Awards

LCH Healthcare Support Worker receives Chief Nursing Officer Award for Compassion

Leanne Huntington, Senior Healthcare Support Worker has received a Chief Nursing Officer Award for Excellence in Compassion. This prestigious accolade recognises nurses and healthcare support workers who go above and beyond to deliver care with empathy, respect, and kindness.

LCH Adult Dietitians Shortlisted for HSJ Partnership Award

LCH Adult Dietitians were part of a project led by Interface Clinical Services and Leeds Health and Care Partnership titled ‘Creating Prescribing Efficiencies of Oral Nutritional Supplementation in Leeds’. The project was shortlisted in the Best Contribution to Improving the Efficiency of the NHS category at the HSJ Partnership Awards.

Kirsten Lamb Awarded an Education Award

Kirsten Lamb, MSK Physiotherapist/First Contact Physiotherapist was awarded an Education Award by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. This has enabled Kirsten to present her research into patient access to First Contact Physiotherapy at the World Physiotherapy Congress in Tokyo later this year.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Framework for Roma Communities Shortlisted for Antibiotic Guardian Award 

The project ‘Developing a framework for Co-production to prevent Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in the Roma Population in West Yorkshire’, has been nominated under the Tackling Health Inequalities in AMR category at the Antibiotic Guardian Awards. It was developed by Anna Crowther, Senior Matron at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust. The framework focuses on co-production approaches to address AMR within underserved communities.

Dr Jill Halstead-Rastrick Awarded a Senior Clinical Research and Practitioner Award

Jill Halstead-Rastrick, Podiatrist, Clinical Head of Podiatry Service and Clinical Lead for Research has been awarded the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Senior Clinical Research and Practitioner Award.

Jill will continue to lead the Research Team and over the next five years this award will support Jill to explore community foot pain solutions, midfoot osteoarthritis treatment and build clinical research capacity at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust.

Leeds’ HomeFirst Programme Shortlisted for MJ Achievement Award 

The HomeFirst programme has been shortlisted in the ‘delivering better outcomes’ category at the MJ Achievement Awards 2025. HomeFirst is an innovative, person-centred and integrated intermediate care programme, which enables more people to receive care at home or return home sooner after hospital stays. Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust is part of the collaborative programme, alongside Leeds City Council, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust and more partners.

HomeFirst Programme Shortlisted for the LGC Awards

The HomeFirst model for intermediate care, developed by Leeds City Council, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust and more partners has been shortlisted for a LGC Award in the Health and Social Care category. HomeFirst is an innovative, person-centred and integrated care programme, which enables more people to receive care at home or return home sooner after hospital stays.

Leeds Sexual Health Shortlisted for HSJ Digital Award

Leeds Sexual Health’s Online HIV prevention and chlamydia treatment in Leeds programme has been shortlisted for a HSJ Digital Award in the Optimising Clinical Pathways through Digital category.

Homeless Health and Inclusion/Homeless Health Intervention Beds teams won a Leeds Quality and Care award 

The team were recognised at the start of February for the ‘Most Innovative approach to supporting independence choice and control. They offer care and dignity to people who are often having their worst days and who are excluded from mainstream services.

2024 Awards

‘Love to Learn’ Training and Development team were shortlisted in the Nursing Times Awards

The team were shortlisted in the Technology and Data in Nursing category for our innovative learning platform at LCH.

0-19 Public Health Integrated Nursing Service Win Team of the Year at the Unite-CPHVA 2024 Excellence Awards

The 0-19 Public Health Integrated Nursing Service won Team of the Year at the Unite-CPHVA Annual Professional Conference for their work and support whilst offering holistic learning opportunity for undergraduate nursing students accessing their clinical environment as a placement.

Patient Experience Network National Awards

The Home First project led by Team Leeds (Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and Leeds City Council) were shortlisted for the PENNA Awards. The project involves work reducing the length of stay in an acute hospital and improving outcomes by focussing on Home First.

Helen Heer and Rebecca Kelly Awarded NIHR/HEE Internship

Helen Heer, Speech and Language Therapist and Rebecca Kelly, Specialist Physiotherapist in the LCH Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team have been awarded an internship as part of the Integrated Clinical Academic (ICA) Programme. The ICA programme is funded by Health Education England (HEE) and run by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

Victoria Carruthers Awarded Pre-Doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship

Victoria Carruthers, Specialist Occupational Therapist in the LCH Community Neurological Discharge Team was awarded the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)-funded Pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship.

Paul Brown and Krystal Tang Awarded Masters in Research (NIHR INSIGHTS Programme)

LCH Musculoskeletal Service’s Physiotherapists, Paul Brown and Krystal Tang have been awarded Masters in Research as part of Health and Care Research (NIHR)’s INSIGHTS Programme.

Anna Crowle Awarded NIHR Clinician Researcher Credentials Framework Funding

Anna Crowle, Physiotherapist in the LCH Integrated Children’s Additional Needs Service (ICAN) Service has been awarded Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinician Researcher Credentials Framework funding for an MSc in Health and Clinical Research Delivery.

Nursing Times Awards 2024

‘Love to Learn’ was shortlisted in the Technology and Data category at this year’s Nursing Times Awards. Love to Learn aims to bring every aspect of learning and development into one place for all staff in the Trust can use.

NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board were shortlisted in two categories for ‘Creating and sustaining nurse/carer partnerships’: the HRH The Prince of Wales Award for Integrated Approaches to Care and the Nursing in the Community Award. This citywide work in Leeds was facilitated in Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust by Hayley Ingleson, Senior Practice Learning Facilitator, Emma Jackson, Patient Engagement, Experience and Participation Officer and John Walsh, Organisational Development Lead and Freedom To Speak Up Guardian.

The ‘Collaboration safety improvements between A&E and police custody detainees’ was shortlisted in the Dame Elizabeth Anionwu Award for Inclusivity in Nursing and Midwifery category at the Nursing Times Awards 2024. New pathways, paperwork, improved standards, and training improved and allowed for a more effective and quicker discharge process.

Craig Russo Receives Medallist of the Order of the British Empire

Craig Russo, Clinical Operational Manager for Humberside Police Custody at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust received the Medallist of the Order of the British Empire for services to Mental Health Nursing in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours.

Ruth Burnett Awarded Senior Fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management

Ruth Burnett, Executive Medical Director was awarded the Senior Fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management at the FMLM Conference. FMLM Fellows include a broad range of clinical leaders who have been recognised for their leadership experience, skills, and contribution to healthcare.

Craig Russo Highly Commended in the UK Parliament Week

Craig Russo, Operational Lead for Humberside Police Custody received a Highly Commended Champion of the Year Award in the UK Parliament Week Awards. The award is in recognition of his voluntary work and the work for Leeds Community Healthcare in Police Custody Humberside in patient safety improvement and leading new pathways.

ICAN Improvement Project Shortlisted for National SEND Award

The Integrated Children’s Additional Needs Service (ICAN) was shortlisted as a finalist for the Health Innovation Award at the National SEND Awards for their innovation project. It involves making reasonable adjustments in bloods clinics for children and young people with additional needs to create a bespoke and individually tailored experience.

Noor Wins International Community Nurse of the Year

Noor Ul Haq, Registered Nurse and Pastoral Support Lead was awarded the International Community Nurse of the Year at the Queen’s Nursing Institute Ceremony.

HR Excellence Awards 2023

LCH won ‘Best Recruitment and Workforce Planning Strategy’ at The 2023 HR Excellence Awards.

Nursing Times Awards

Hayley Ingleson (LCH and Leeds Primary Care Practice Learning Facilitator- Nursing) was up for educator of the year at the Nursing Times Awards 2023.

Royal College of Podiatry Academic Award

Dr Jill Halstead-Rastrick Podiatrist, Clinical Head of Service for Podiatry & Clinical lead for research at LCH was presented at an event held at the House of Lords by the Royal college of Podiatry for an Academic award.

Finance Team of the Year Award

The LCH Finance Team name Finance Team of the Year at the Healthcare Financial Management Association Awards.

William Rathbone X Annual Award

Steph Lawrence MBE, Executive Director of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals was highly commended in the inaugural William Rathbone X Annual Award.

Christine Comer Highly Commended for the Research Allied Health Professional of the Year award

Christine Comer, Head of Musculoskeletal Service was recognised as Highly commended at the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network Research Awards in the Research Allied Health Professional of the Year category.

NHS Pastoral Care Quality Award

The Trust was awarded the NHS Pastoral Care Quality Award to recognise our work in international recruitment and our commitment to providing high-quality pastoral care to internationally educated nurses and midwives during recruitment processes and their employment.

Tissue Viability Shortlisted for Journal of Wound Care Award

The Tissue Viability Service were shortlisted for a Journal of Wound Care (JWC) award, Antimicrobial Stewardship for the Leeds Community Healthcare Wound Infection Framework.

2022 Awards

Rachael Pegler Receives Award for the Philip Goodeve-Docker Memorial Prize.

Rachael Pegler, Newly Qualified District Nurse from Seacroft Neighbourhood Team was recently awarded the Philip Goodeve-Docker Memorial Prize. This was awarded by the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) following a nomination by Leeds Beckett University.

Leeds Long COVID Community Rehabilitation Service Shortlisted for Medipex Award

The Long COVID holistic virtual rehabilitation programme was selected as a finalist at the Medipex Awards for the Improved treatments, therapies, and rehabilitation award.

Maxine Emmonds Won the Cavell Star Award

Maxine Emmonds, Integrated Children’s Additional Needs Service (ICAN) – South hub healthcare support worker received the Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for patients.

LCH Staff Wellbeing Facebook Group Shortlisted for HSJ Award

The LCH Your Health and Wellbeing – Caring for Each Other Facebook group were shortlisted for the Staff Wellbeing Award, recognising outstanding contribution to healthcare.

2021 Awards

Special Award won at the Leeds City Council Awards

Teams from Leeds City Council and our Infection Prevention Team won the Leeds City Council Special Award. They won the award for their work on the Covid outbreak. They worked to limit the spread of the virus and provided help to many services.

Teams shortlisted at Leeds City Council Awards

The Infection Prevention Team were shortlisted for the Partner of the Year Award.

The Homeless and Health Inclusion Team were also shortlisted for the award for their work to help rough sleepers during the pandemic.

Team of the Year at the Nursing Times Awards

The team of staff from five partners was awarded Team of the Year for their work to improve access to end of life care for homeless people in Leeds.

Marcel wins the Finance Student of the Year Award

Marcel joined us in October 2020. During this time, he has become an important part of the team and has made a great impact on the services provided.

Rachel Tarrant and Jenny Davison Win Award

Rachel Tarrant and Jenny Davison, the joint leaders of the Leeds Long Covid Service, won a Collaboration Award.

Leeds Long Covid Service wins Leadership Team of the Year Award

The Leeds Long Covid Service won a Clinical Leadership Team award.

Nina Davies wins Diamond Award

Nina Davies was awarded a Diamond Award at the House of Lords. Some of Nina’s input into the field of podiatry includes research and work as a lecturer.

The Leeds Long Covid Service wins Innovation Award

The Leeds Long Covid Service were joint winners at the Innovation Awards 2021.

Leeds Virtual Ward shortlisted in Patient Safety Award

Our Leeds Virtual Frailty Ward was shortlisted at the Patient Safety Awards 2021.

The service provides quick and effective care to people with an urgent medical need who can be safely cared for in their own home.

Kulvant Wins the Inclusive Leader Award

Kulvant Sandhu won the Inclusive Leader award for the difference made to Race Equality Network recruitment, selection, and staff development.

Organisation of the Year

Our Freedom to Speak Up Team were praised for their work.

Work by the team continued to develop during the pandemic. This included eleven new champions to support colleagues. Support has also been offered to staff who have been shielding.

Shortlisted for Carers Award

We were shortlisted for the work that we do with Carers Leeds.


2020 Awards

Ranked at Number 21 on The Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers List

This is our second year ranking in the top 25.

Beverley Calvert Won the You’re Simply Marvellous Award

The award highlights the value professionals bring to the treatment of heart failure. Beverly was nominated by a local patient and was one of only five chosen.

Our Infection Prevention Team won an Outstanding Achievement Award

The award was given on behalf of all partners across the city for the work the team did in Leeds during the pandemic.

Commitment to Carers

We were awarded a certificate for our commitment to carers during 2020.

Award wins at Advancing Healthcare Awards

Gemma Hawtin was praised as the Overall Winner at a ceremony held in London.

Gemma and her colleague Michelle Lyons also picked up the award for Outstanding Achievement in praise of their Wheelchair Skills Programme.

Chat Health won the Nursing in Mental Health Award

Our 0-19 team offer Chat Health which means young people can text a nurse for private health support and advice.

LCH Library Services Receive Praise

Helen Swales won the Head of Library and Knowledge Services North Award. The whole library team also won a bronze Library Superstar Award at the same event for the trust book club.

Nurses receive Queen’s Nurse Title

Liz Grogan and Jo Reynard were given the Queen’s Nurse title by the Queen’s Nursing Institute.
